I wanted to promote this information 'freely' to

research papers of my friend the late

Originally, I was going to make it into an E-Book-

I may decide to re-organize the E-Books-

ADD, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's &

a "Guide to Alternative Medical Products'

I decided to see how my exercise products sell-

and investigate which project makes any sense to pursue-

My athletic background was in Olympic Weightlifting.

I graduated from the Irvington, NJ school system in

1968. I first attended Memphis State U & I won several

State AAU Championships, I next went to Essex

Country College and became friends with the late

Milt Campbell (1952 & 1956 decathlon -gold medal)

who endorsed Randy Coyle's Squat Machine.

I next attended Temple University and obtained my

B.S. Degree in Education- 

While an undergraduate student at Temple,

I trained with Fred Hatfield and Ted Ritzer

(Ted took 3rd place in the '72 Olympic Trials)

I learned about nutritional education from Fred &

Ted -who both recieved PhD's in Medicine- at Temple-

Fred Hatfield encouraged me to continue in

Olympic Weightlifting since there is no development

program in that sport. I began manufacturing the

elastic cord products & adverised in major publications

I learned tool & die work and I made various military

parts to spec. Fred Hatfield went on to hold the

World Record in the Back Squat of 1000+/lbs-

as well as 'Editor in Chief' of 'Sport Fitness Magazine' 

and writing over 50 books & publications.

                     

I put these pictures in - of my lifelong friendship

with Dr Fred and Pete Koch -while training at Fred's garage

gym in Northridge, CA. Pete played in the movie

'Heartbreak Ridge' with Mr. Eastwood.

In the mid 1980's, I worked with the late Stanley Grip

who supplied the cars for the 'Godfather I'- movie-and did several bit parts in the movie-

Stanley Grip also restored 1913 Pullman train car

which is now located at the Lancaster Train Musium

  of Mental Disorders - does not have scientific evidence to

      prove medication will improve the underline cause of

  the problem - medication will only reduce the symptoms.

          Does the child listen? Don't forget there are sometimes problems with - hearing & timing-

                             

MOTOR SKILLS-

BOYS- are movement, motion & auditory

GIRLS-  visual skills & fine motor skills

Plan activities around their gender, age,interest & abilities

Girls are better at fine motor skills- cooking, cleaning

dishes, young girls usually play - hula-hoops, painting,

skipping rope, hopscotch, dusting the room, cleaning

up, sweeping the floor, tying, answering phone calls,

cooking,  braiding plant hangers, macrame', paperwork,

sewing, cutting, pasting, braiding their hair, playing

with clay...while boys would be more likely to be throwing

clay, throwing a paper airplane, girls would use a ruler to measure things while boys would use a ruler- as a play

sword. Boys would do activities which involve

movement- throwing a football, kicking a soccer ball,

hitting & catching a baseball, playing basketball, -activities of motion, movement and auditory activities - as in

football, basketball, soccer. Girls would be more likely to

stay in their seats and remain quiet while boys would

more likely be throwing papers into a garbage can-

called -'garbage can basketball'. Usually as a teacher

whenever I substituted a class- "it was always the two

or three girls who would sit in the front of the class and

do the assignment while the boys would - 'zone out' to the

back of the class. Thus- girls would be more likely to be secretaries, office workers, check-out retail jobs,

teachers, nurses- occupations which require - FINE

MOTOR SKILLS- Boys would be more inclined to

become policemen, fireman,plumbers, truck drivers,

landscape workers, GROSS MOTOR SKILLS - so plan the

active and inactive activities around their interests and

abilities.

AUDITORY SKILLS- Teach the child to remember

their 'telephone number'- and ask if they can say it

backwards- Dr Hodes taught me this trick- repeat the

telephone number -forward and backwards- A good way

to have the youngsters to remember spelling words:

FOR SPELLING 'spell' the word forwards & backwards

REPEAT THE WORD FORWARDS & BACKWARDS-

For example - say the word - 's-p-e-l-l-i-n-g'

   * now say the word backwards  'g-n-i-l-l-e-p-s'

Teach this to a ADD  child or an A/D patient- Works

great for ADD and people who are - 'dyslexic' now:

'spell the word backwards'-

Teach the child - A/D patient - to repeat the word

over & over-again- teach them to spell their home address,

read to the child and ask them questions- ask them to tell

you the events of the day, what did they do in school

today? 'What did they learn today? Who is their teacher?

Spell the name of the school? Who is the principal?

Recite nurse rhymes and jingles to the child, read to the

child, and keep a scrapbook---

 

VISUAL SKILLS- We have a entire program of 'visual

skill exercises for children as well as for adults who

have Alzheimer's & Parkinson's----

There are 'fine' visual skills- playing card games,

puzzles, describe objects from memory, reading, music-

These are games for GROSS MOTOR SKILLS-

shooting basketballs, throwing a football, kicking a soccer

ball- FINE MOTOR SKILLS for young children are  drawing,

art work, coloring books, crayons, playing an instrument-

However- playing an instrument, doing art work, throwing

a ball - which are common PE program activities- IS

NOT VISUAL TRAINING - The activities used in

school educational programs- DO NOT HELP IN

OVERCOMING LEARNING DISABILITIES,

ADD/ADDED, DYSLEXIA, HYPERACTIVITY- FIRST GET

A - 'VISUAL EXAM BY A CERTIFIED LICENSED

BEHAVIOR OPTOMETRIST - if that is not possible -

than get a 'visual exam' using the 'vision testing

machine' invented by NASA and marketed and

improved by VISION TESTING MACHINE- CORP- 

In conclusion, USE YOUR IMAGINATION to create a

positive learning atmosphere. Think positive. Be creative.

Keep the child in a nurturing, non-threatening,

positive environment.

As a teacher for over 20 years, one thing I noticed most -

either students were awake and learning or asleep

/ day dreaming - and not learning. Sometimes it's best - let 'sleeping dogs lie'.

According to Feldenkrais, "Two states of existence

are commonly distinguished: waking and sleeping".

Some children in the classroom- go into their

'comfort zone'...behaving 'well' so they can get a passing

grade. Perhaps, as a 'substitute' teacher for many a

class , students would say- to fellow 'classmates'...

'be quite' or the principal would get us a stricter teacher.'-

for at least, it made the day---- go easier.  Every class

usually has a few students - who- do the assignments-

usually two or three girls - who sit in the front row- stay

quite and do the assignment. While many of the rest,would

stay towards the back of the room and 'zone out'.

So existence, there are two states: waking and

sleeping. According to Feldenkrais, there is a 'third

state': awareness...this is the questionable state when it

comes to 'whether or not a child /adult has a learning

disability or dyslexia...a cranial distortion or whatever....

There are many exercises one can do to improve - 'vision'

Thur movement. These exercises can improve ones

mental outlook as well as helping people who have

Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ADD, ADHD, Learning

Disabilities, Hyperactivity, dyslexia, heart disease and

many other modalities. But, - first one must have a

positive mental outlook and an 'awareness' of -self-

First read this passage from a book ti tiled

'Awareness of Movement by MosheFeldenkrais -

"Everyman- has two worlds: a personal world of his

own and the external world common to us all."

{ for example- I took care of my late mother for 15 years, I & researched Alternative Medicine- and had the

blessing of meeting some of the top doctors and

researchers in the world as well as the opportunity to

have met and worked with Muhammad Ali...so I

know my subject matter. Many people who have any of

these modalities- basically live in a world of there own.

People stay in the world that gives them the most

'comfort'. Many people who have any type of disability -

have a way of seeking comfort in the world they are

most comfortable. The 'Alzheimer's P/D, L/D patent will

stay in their 'comfort zone'-  world of their own- they know

what is going on- in their internal world- but- fear the

external world since they may be 'drugged' - thrown

into a 'nursing' home- they will never escape from - as

e flew -west -one flew east one flew over the coo-Koo's nest'}

Feldenkrais goes on to write- "In my personal world,

the universe and all living things exist only as long as I live,

   my world is born with me and dies and disappears

together with me. In the great world we all share I am no

more than a drop of water in the sea or a grain of sand

in the desert. My life and death hardly affect the great

world at all."

However, most important- do not let a family member who

has any of these modalities feel that - 'they are not

needed'. Their lives are important - they are important

family members- this is most important - the positive

outlook!

I wanted to say a few words about the New Jersey State

Law concerning the eleven categories of disabilities:

Auditory handicapped

Communication disordered

Perceptually impaired

Neurologically impaired

Emotionally disturbed

Speech and Language impaired

Learning disabled

Blind or partially - sighted

Mentally retarded (educable and trainable)

Chronically ill and those who do not fit into above named categories-

According to Dr Hodes...."Developmental / Behavioral Optometric Care is extremely beneficial to the child with educational disabilities. Visual motor skills combined

with motoric efficiency- form the underlying base and

basis of perception and cognitive upstanding of

SYMBOLS

AND SPACE, PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION-MAKING".

Developmental disabilities, discrepancies and impairments

are the results of genetic inheritance or heredity- the child does not develop properly in the womb. Other causes of these learning disabilities are congenital, showing up at birth

while others appear perfectly normal at birth. Other

disabilities are acquired accidents, developmental delays,

lack of neuro-physiological-motoric integration, cerebral allergies, malnutrition, sublimated vertebrae,

psychosomatic defects and illness, and other causes,

such as birth injuries, toxemia, heavy toxic metals as

lead poisoning and mercury poisoning from silver fillings-

'Talking it out' - it is the belief of the modern educational

system - that these learning disabilities- can just be -

'talked

out.' The administrator would take the child into their office - talk to the child - call the parent- the child 'study team'

will interview the child- they will write up some papers -

and 'blow some 'smoke into the child's face as- in the case

of 'bullying'- but does it solve the underline problem?

Teachers must submit lesson plans, attend teacher conferences, be tested, analyzed, label each child, proper evaluation, and the child 'placed' in the 'appropriate class'.

The school nurse will check the child's vision - using a

poster placed TEN FEET AWAY.  We read a elbow's length-

WHAT CAN BE DONE TO AMELIORATE THE CONDITION?-

Dr Hodes went on to conclude...."hasn't it become clear

that unless and until the underlining, BASIC core

processes have been put into proper working order,

integration, synchrony and balance, the child will still be underachieving and suboptimal functioning?"

IN CONCLUSION

Many children & adults have learning disabilities. Their intelligence is normal and they

have no physical disabilities like blindness or deafness. Learning disabilities are the result

of their brains do not process information in the most effective manner- remembering,

thinking, seeing & hearing.

LEARNING DISABILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING-

DYSLEXIA - reading difficulties 

DYSGRAPHIA - writing difficulties

DYSCALCULIA - problems in math- mathematical operations

ADD/ADHD - problems paying attentionor concentrating

MOTOR CONTROL PROBLEMS - are difficulties in using their bodies-properly-

THE KEY IS THE BRAIN-

THE KEY TO LEARNING IS THE BRAIN-

Information comes to the brain - through the five senses-

VISION, HEARING, SMELL, TASTE, & TOUCH-

NEURONS - (nerve cells)

The Human Body is Electrical

Messages- from the senses - are in the form of electrical impulses- travel the

neuron to neuron system by CHEMICALS - called NEUROTRANSMITTERS-

HOW DO WE THINK?

The gift of 'thinking' comes from GOD!

True thinking is PRAYER!

If we eat other foods, drinks, chemicals, man made 'foods' GMO- (genetic

modified foods)- as in today's - dairy products- This effects the neurological

chemical system... thus preventing clear- 'thinking.'
