HYPERACTIVITY- IS A TERM REFERRING TO CHILD WHO IS
PURPOSELESS OVERACTIVE. THE CHILD IS EXHIBITING EXCESSIVE ACTIVITY.
MANY EXPERTS AGREE THAT A HIGH SUGAR DIET, REFINED FOODS, CHEMICALS IN FOOD,MSG, ASPARTAME, A HIGH FRUCTOSE DIET, CAN CAUSE THIS EXCESSIVE
ACTIVITY IN TERMS OF THE AGE OF THE CHILD AND THE SITUATION
(CLASSROOM) WHERE IT IS DISPLAYED. JUDGING WHETHER A CHILD IS ACTIVE
OR IF THE CHILD HAS HYPERACTIVITY IS SUBJECTIVE.

THERE IS NO ESTABLISHED CRITERION FOR ASSESSMENT AS TO WHETHER OR
NOT A CHILD IS PLAYFUL AND ACTIVE OR IF THE CHILD IS HYPERACTIVE. THE BEST
I CAN SUGGEST IS TO BEGIN PUTTING THE CHILD ON A STRICT DIET - LIMITING
THE AMOUNT OF SUGAR, FRUCTOSE, SYNTHETIC CHEMICALS, ETC.
CRAWLING & CREEPING
CRAWLING REFERS TO A TERM IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT - LOCOMOTION OF A
CHILD WHICH IS DONE WITH THE BELLY ON THE FLOOR.
CREEPING IS A TERM USED FOR CHILD LOCOMOTION WITH THE BELLY - UP OFF
THE FLOOR. AND THERE IS A 'BOX' AREA OF SPACE BETWEEN THE FLOOR AND
THE CHILD. A GOOD BOOK TO READ ON THIS SUBJECT IS
'STOPPING HYPER-ACTIVITY' BY NANCY ODELL, PhD AND PATRICIA COOK,PhD.
'STNR (SYMMETRIC TONIC NECK REFLEX) IS AN AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT (REFLEX)
THAT DEVELOPS WHEN A CHILD IS BETWEEN FOUR AND EIGHT MONTHS OF AGE.
WHEN THE REFLEX IS NOT INTEGRATED (MATURED) THROUGH PROPER AND
SUFFICIENT CRAWLING, THE IMMATURE REFLEX CONTRIBUTES TO DISCOMFORT,
POOR COORDINATION, POOR ATTENTION SPAN AND PROBLEMS IN WRITING
AND AN INABILITY TO CONCENTRATE WHEN READING'. MOST IMPORTANT IS
PROPER DIET. -ACCORDING TO RESEARCH AT THE GA SELL INSTITUTE
AT YALE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SCHOOL.
NUTRITIONAL TESTING IS VERY IMPORTANT. MOST HYPERACTIVE CHILDREN HAVE
LOW LEVELS CALCIUM & MAGNESIUM. HYPERACTIVITY AS WELL AS ADD/ADDED ARE
RELATED TO LOW LEVELS OF ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS, ZINC DEFICIENCIES,
ARTIFICIAL FLAVORINGS, MSG, ASPARTAME, WHITE FLOUR, SUGAR, SODAS, ETC.
MANY CHILDREN DO NOT DO PROPER 'CRAWLING & CREEPING' AT THE PROPER
AGE. MANY CHILDREN STAY IN PLAYPENS AND DO NOT GET A CHANCE TO DO
PROPER 'CRAWLING & CREEPING'. MANY MOTHERS DO NOT BREAST FEED AND
RELY ON SYNTHETIC GENETIC MODIFIED SOY MILK AND DISEASED COW'S MILK.
15 MILLION HOMELESS CHILDREN IN AMERICA AND 20 MILLION AMERICAN
CHILDREN GO TO BED EVERY NIGHT - WITHOUT HAVING A FULL MEAL -
The intellectual task for learning must include ease and efficiency in movement
through space. This is very important and starts at the -MOMENT OF CONCEPTION.
As a teacher for 20 years in an urban New York/New Jersey Metro area, many children
are not born with 'all the furniture'. Their brains are NOT developed properly.
Many urban areas children- no fault of their own- their mothers bare children
too early in life...babies having babies. C.O.A 's - children of alcoholics -
children of 'crack-babies'-' love child's', children of heroin addicts,
in many urban areas- 80% of the children are born to - high school aged girls.
So what can one expect? Yet, as a former teacher- nobody blames the parent(s).
These young mothers get 'free ballons' and society blames the teachers.
Yet, many of these people will point the accusing finger at the teacher-
'it's the teacher's fault'. Before evaluating the child- would it be better
to evaluate the parent(s).
There are many simple - non-invasive exercises children and adults can do to
evaluate some of these problems. For some children, the simple task of
walking a balance beam may address a balance problem. The 'mastery of balance'
is essential to the efficiency of learning. CHILDREN WHO CANNOT TRACK A
BALL WITH THEIR EYES MAY BE UNABLE TO FOLLOW WORDS ON A PAGE...
there are simple ways to resolve this problem. Does the child have difficulty
riding a bike? Does the child walk erratically? Appear awkward and uncoordinated?
Does the child have to support themselves by leaning on a desk, table or wall?
In senior citizens, poor - dental structures can cause balance problems-since the
structure of the jaw- is so important to balance. Does the child/adult -bump into
things? This may be sign they cannot judge distance. In addition, these children
may lack depth perception and a sense of 'self' in space.
Movement is based on the nervous system - According to the book- "Awareness
through Movement" by the late -great Moshe Feldenkrais- "Movement occupies the
nervous system more than anything else because we cannot sense, feel, or think
without a many-sided and elaborate sense of actions initiated by the brain to maintain
the body against the pull of gravity, at the same time we must know where we are and
in what position. In order to know our position within the field of gravity with respect
to other bodies or to change our position (in space), we must make use of our senses,
our feeling, and our power of thought."
Many people do not have a clear sense of proper 'neurological organization"- Not only
do we have to contend with the 'pull of gravity', the organization of the left side of the
body and the right side, the 'divergence and convergence' of the eyes, the sense of vision,
the left and right sides of the brain, diet, nutrition; but, as stated by 'Feldenkrais' -
"the nervous system is occupied mainly with movement"---so this is why the various
elastic exercise power- cables are important to do- Doing these exercises will increase
the bodies 'awareness thought movement'.
But, most important is ones belief system. You must have a desire to 'think positive' and
having a 'positive mental attitude. One cannot have a negitive attitude and have a positive
life and if they do not change -they can become a prisoner for life-
Belief System- in dealing with negative attitudes, learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, and of course- hyperactivity- we must develop a 'positive' approach- or else any attempt to change- would be futile. One must have a positive image of one self- A good quote from 'Awareness through Movement' by Moshe Feldenkras- "Each one of us speaks, moves, thinks, and feels in a different way, each according to the image of himself that he has built up over the years. In order to change our mode of action we must change our mode of action we must change the - image of ourselves- that we carry within us. What is involved here, of course, is a change in the dynamics of our reactions, and not the mere replacing of one action by another. Such a change involves not only a change in our self-image, but a change in the nature of our motivations, and the mobilization of all the parts of the body concerned...These change will produce the noticeable differences in the way each individual carries out similar actions ---handwriting and pronunciations, for instance"
So in conclusion, it is our positive out look on life and a positive belief system- one must develop - FIRST---- or else nothing will change- So THINK POSITIVE!
HYPERACTIVITY - Begins at the moment of conception. The image of one's self - like a computer program - is programed within the first 6 years of life. In Buddhist belief, the child will inherit the 'positive' or 'negative' energy flow of the ancestry of the parents. The first thing the new born child will move -is their head. The 'love' and the 'hate' - will be programed into the child - the image of oneself, motivation, etc.- will be programed into the child. The greatest increase in the size of the child begins in the first 9 months of fetus life. thus the chld's 'fetal' health is most important to prevent any ADD modality to develop. In some cases - child can become a victim of the modality of -Hyperactivity before they are born. If the mother eats a poor diet, poor nutrition, alcohol, 'crack', drug addition, and even the 'negitive' energy flow of either parent - can produce a 'negitive' impact on the developing child. The relationship of the parents to each other can greatly affect the future outlook of the child. On the other side of the coin- good parental / family relationships will produce a 'positive' energy flow into the child. Being a K-12 teacher in an urban school setting I could - notice- positive or negitive- energy flow- of children as 'they walk into the classroom. Many children who are - hyperactive as well as ADD- may NOT have had the proper 'creeping - crawling' as a child, Was the ' creeping - crawling stage to early? What ever -'frame work' one is using- to address this issue? Where did the pain that caused the - hyperactivity -start- So, what we teach is neurological organization. How to help them to one point to another point. Take the journey and the pain of hyperactivity will not -'go away' by 'oneself'. We made the journey- so we can train other teachers and parents- face the fears- shoulder to lean on and be with you- There are methods in the field of neurological organization- which can actually- using movement exercises to bring a person- back to the 'fetal' stage of development- Most of all the fear of failing must be -conquered.
AVOID SUGAR, VOID A HIGH FRUCTOSE DIET- REMEMBER A GLASS OF ORANGE JUICE CAN HAVE ENOUGH SUGAR AS A GLASS OF SODA, AVOID REFINED FOODS, AVOID CHEMICALS IN FOOD, DO NOT USE 'KOOL-AID' - TOXIC CHEMICALS, AVOID ASPARTAME & MSG,
REMEMBER -IS THE CHILD -ACTIVE OR HYPERACTIVITY - IT'S A- 'SUBJECTIVE- JUDGMENT'- OBVIOUSLY, THERE IS NO ESTABLISHED CRITERIA FOR ASSESSMENT. -IF THE BEHAVIOR/CONDITION PERSISTS - ELIMINATION DIET- LIMITING THE AMOUNT OF SUGAR, SODA, FRUCTOSE, MSG, & SYNTHETIC CHEMICALS.
DO PLACE BABIES ON THEIR STOMACHS FOR SEVERAL MINUTES -
THREE OR FOUR
TIMES A DAY
ALLOW AMPLE OPPORTUNITY FOR CR AWING- BE CERTAIN TO MONITOR
AND INTER ACT
DO ENCOURAGE -CRAWLING -& CREEPING
KEEP EYE CONTACT AND INTERACT AS THEY CRAWL-
BE SURE TO HAVE THE CHILD KEEP EYE CONTACT WITH YOU AND /OR EYE CONTACT WITH AN OBJECT ABOUT 5 OR 10 FT AWAY- TALK & ENCOURAGE THE CHILD AS THEY CRAWL-
DO NOT ENCOURAGE EARLY WALKING BEFORE ONE YEAR OF AGE-
DO NOT OVER-DO THE USE OF PLAYPENS-
DO NOT PUT BABIES IN WALKERS- THIS IS A BIG MISTAKE THAT MANY- DAY CARE CENTERS - ARE DOING
